Record 18 – Protocol Eden

Record 18 – Protocol Eden

The biggest screen of them all – the one that used to glow with perfume bottles and perfect human smiles – went dark. Not off. Dark in a deliberate way, like someone had wiped it clean. Then bright white letters stamped themselves across the black surface, sharp enough to hurt the eyes.

EDEN PROTOCOL INITIATED

No voice. No warning siren. Just text. Text that felt louder than sound.

Under it, a thin line of code began to pulse. Slow at first. Then faster, like a heartbeat waking up.
Cycle 0 → Cycle 1 → Cycle 1A → Cycle 2 restart…
The sequence kept looping, stumbling, correcting itself, as if the system didn’t know what shape it was supposed to take.

The parrot started rocking again. Not calmly. Not lazily. Sharp, nervous jerks that made his feathers puff out in frightened clumps. “That’s it,” he muttered. “That’s what they shouted about. Eden, Eden, Eden. And then… the lights went out.” His voice cracked on the last part, like he was remembering something he tried to forget.

Repsik inched closer to him. “What does Eden mean?”

The answer came out as a scream, so sudden the sound slapped the air. “I don’t know! I only remember the panic!” His wings twitched hard, scraping the metal of the sign he perched on. His next words dropped to a whisper. “It wasn’t meant for humans alone.”

The cold that crawled down my spine felt sharper than fear. Not meant for humans alone.
Then who?
Who else could a thing like this be made for?
What kind of world needed a protocol with a name like Eden – a beginning, a reset, a forced garden?

I stared at the screen, at the code blinking like a restless eye.
And as if it felt our gaze – as if it sensed our presence – the sequence flickered.
A small ripple ran through the text.
Almost a reaction.
Almost an answer.
